It's not always a bed of roses

Toxic relationship cases among campus students have risen over the years. To be honest the students don't seem to know what they are getting themselves into and if they know if they are in a healthy relationship or not.

Some characteristics of toxic relationships are lack of support, toxic communication such as being answered rudely, jealousy, controlling behaviors, and dishonesty.

Toxic relationships destroy your self-esteem and confidence, consume your energy, breed negativity and also form a template for your other relationships. All these not only affect the students but their parents as well since they invest in their children and no parent wants ill to their children.

Two years ago, a second-year student at Kabianga University was accused of stabbing his campus girlfriend to death in a love triangle. In January of the same year, a fourth-year female student at Mount Kenya University confessed to killing her boyfriend by stabbing him. These are not the only cases I know of since there are many more.

What the university students don't know is that it's okay not to be in a relationship just to fit in, it's okay not to fit in it's okay to take things slowly at times. They should also know that in a relationship you deserve respect, honesty and an open communication.

  1. I agree with you ,the main factor that has lead to young souls in the university forgetting their goal and most of them have the solution in their mind is committing suicide.

  3. I recommend that our universities should have counseling therapists to guide us. The "love killing" has become an issue now.

  4. Relationships at campus level is the hardest to handle. I find it difficult to engage in a relationship at the same time handling studies. I think this is the reason as to why relationships don't last long at the campuses.
