Climate is defined as the weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period. Change in climate can either favor or tamper with our daily life. Climatic changes mostly affect agriculture since the change in climate affects soil temperature and moisture levels making food crops sensitive to climatic changes which tampers which human life.

In most parts of the country, Kenyans depend on agriculture as a form of survival. This is threatened by the change in climatic conditions such as drought, and heavy rains which cause floods, killing of animals, and even invasion of pests and diseases which causes intense drought to human life and even death due to hunger and floods.

Turkana county is one of the places affected by climatic change where the residents experience drought, floods, and intense rainfall which hinders their way of life and even causes death due to lack of food and clean water for drinking.

Just like in other countries, drought causes a rise in temperature which affects vegetation, food sources, and also access to water. Drought is not the only climatic condition that affects human life, floods destroy homes and plants since the water sweeps them away.

Since we can't control climatic changes, we should always be ready for good or bad climatic conditions. We can plant cover crops, reduce tillage, expand crop rotation and improve water use and management.
